Using vCenter Content Library
It is possible to use vCenter content library. By using content library we can add VM templates, OVA/OVF templates and other files eg ISO files. Once items are added to content library, they can be shared with other vCenters within same SSO domain (Enhanced Linked mode). These VM templates and ISOs can be selected during launch of a new VM or while connecting a VM virtual CD/DVD to ISO file.
The advantage of using content library is:
- We can share the templates with other vCenters to avoid duplication of effort / storage
- There is option to checkout template as VM, update it and check back updated VM as template. The history of these updates can be tracked
- The template library files can be useful while working with robo clusters / datacenters so that templates/isos are available easily without having to copy them to destination datacenter/cluster/datastores.
