SonicWall Firmware Update

This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to back up your configuration and update the firmware on your SonicWall firewall device safely. Performing a backup before upgrading is essential to prevent configuration loss.

Prerequisites

  • Administrative access to the SonicWall management interface.
  • The latest firmware file downloaded from the official MySonicWall portal.
  • local computer with network access to the SonicWall Firewall device.

Backing Up Firewall Configuration

  1. Log in to the SonicWall management interface.
  2. Go to Device in the top menu.
  3. Navigate to Settings → Firmware and Settings.
  4. Create a Local Backup:
    1. Click Create Backup → Local Backup.
    2. This action saves your current configuration in the SonicWall’s memory.
  5. Export Configuration:
    1. Click Export Configuration.
    2. Save the exported .EXP file to a safe location on your PC.

Uploading the Firmware
