CentOS 8.x erlang man pages installation

There is no erlang-doc package to help with automatic installation of man pages along with erlang. Thus, we need to install man pages manually using:

  1. Check version of erlang installed using:
    rpm -qa | grep erlang
  2. Download erlang man pages tar gz of installed erlang version from https://www.erlang.org/downloads
  3. tar xzf otp_doc_man*.tar.gz
  4. mv man /usr/lib64/erlang
  5. We should see man1, man3 etc. folders
    ls /usr/lib64/erlang/man
  6. Try below command
    erl -man lists
  7. If above does not works edit '/etc/man_db.conf' and insert following after other MANDATORY_MANPATH:
    MANDATORY_MANPATH /usr/lib64/erlang/man
  8. After this we can open erlang man pages directly with man using:
    man lists
    man erlang
Note that 'erl -man <module>' does not works. We can use either direct man command or man with directory name such as 'man -M /usr/lib64/erlang/man lists'.
