It is often useful to have a PHP based web interface for changing LDAP password based on either username or email ID. To setup such as page use following steps on a new machine or container:

  1. yum -y install php php-ldap openldap-clients
  2. service httpd restart
  3. Download php page which can help in changing password from https://gist.github.com/mattrude/657334#file-changepassword-php Raw version of same is available at https://gist.githubusercontent.com/mattrude/657334/raw/c359f9bc56fe91d83a5409c98b37a2a8999ba060/changepassword.php
  4. mv changepassword.php /var/www/html/index.php
  5. Edit /var/www/html/index.php and change following values appropriately:
    $server = "<server_FQDN>";
    $dn = "<ldap_basedn>";
    //After many lines gap
    mail($mail_address,"Password change notice","Dear $first_name,
    Your password on <url_selfhelp> for account $user_id was just changed. If you did not make this change, please contact <helpdesk_email_id>.
    If you were the one who changed your password, you may disregard this message.
    Thanks
    <it_team_name>");
    Values for server_FQDN, ldap_basedn, url_selfhelp, helpdesk_email_id and it_team_name need to be changed appropriately.
  6. Access password change page at http://<password-server-IP-or-FQDN> or https: and try to change some password. Also verify that user received password change notification email.

Note that this page does not works over LDAPS. Hence the setup assumes availability of non-secure LDAP connection for password change.

Automated configuration of php-based LDAP password change page

For automated configuration of php-based LDAP password change page using ansible use following playbook:

---
  - name: Php page to change ldap password
    hosts: 192.168.122.108
    user: root

    vars:
      server_hostname: ldap.sbarjatiya.com
      ldap_base_dn: dc=sbarjatiya,dc=com
      it_team_name: Your Sbarjatiya IT Team
      helpdesk_email_id: saurabh@example.com
      url_selfhelp: http://password.sbarjatiya.com

    tasks:
      - name: Install php, php-ldap and openldap-clients packages
        yum: name={{item}} state=present
        with_items:
          - php
          - php-ldap
          - openldap-clients
        notify:
          - restart apache

      - name: Copy index.php to /var/www/html
        template: src=index.php dest=/var/www/html/index.php

    handlers:
      - name: restart apache
        service: name=httpd state=restarted

The script refers to template index.php file which can be obtained using:
