CentOS 7.x Use LDAP address-book in thunderbird

To configure LDAP address-book such as address book from Zimbra in thunderbird use:

  1. Open Thunderbird
  2. Go to Edit
  3. Select "Account settings"
  4. Under Composition, Addressing, tick Use a different LDAP server then click Edit Directories.
  5. Click Add
    1. Under General tab
      Name
      ZimbraLDAP
      HostName
      mail.example.co.in
      Base DN
      dc=mail,dc=example,dc=co,dc=in
      Port Number
      389
      Bind DN
      uis=user1,ou=People,dc=mail,dc=example,dc=co,dc=in
  6. When done click OK then click OK again to close the LDAP Directory Services window.
  7. In the drop down menu make sure Zimbra LDAP is selected, then click OK to close the options window.
  8. In the To: box start typing a name or address of someone in the GAL. Thunderbird should display some auto complete options with user matches it finds.
