To deploy vRealize Log Insight via vRealize LifeCycle Manager on vcloud foundation setup use:

  1. Assuming binary for log insight was downloaded on SDDC manager and has been synced with LifeCycle manager.
See Download software bundles using Internet access from SDDC Manager OR Download offline bundles and reuse them with SDDC Manager for repeat experiments or air-gapped networks
See Deploy vRealize LifeCycle Manager on vCloud Foundation
  2. Assuming workspace one access has already been deployed. See Deploy workspace one access via vRealize LifeCycle Manager on vcloud foundation setup
  3. Log into Lifecycle manager.
  4. Go to Lifecycle operations -> Settings. Click on "My VMware". Login with "My VMWare" account and save credentials in locker, as required.
This My VMWare login is required for obtaining log insight version. Without this the deployment will fail.
  5. Go to Lifecycle operations -> Dashboard
  6. Click on "Create environment"
  7. Give appropriate environment name, Select root password, Select datacenter
  8. Go through various steps such as EULA, network, etc. while noting following points:
    1. Log insight has option to deploy as cluster with master and workers. It is possible to delete workers and only deploy master. Based on the requirement plan how many log insight nodes are desired.
    2. For each node master and each worker an IP address and FQDN is required. These should resolve forwad and reverse. (eg vrli1.domain.com, vrli2.domain.com, etc.)
    3. Note that Log Insight will get deployed on "Region A" network and not on xRegion network. Thus log insight is on a different subnet compared to lifecycle manager and workspace one access. Subnet values are displayed on the network page during the wizard.
    4. Log insight also has virtual cluster IP. Plan one IP address for this purpose along with FQDN and reverse lookup (Eg vrli.domain.com)
    5. While creating certificate for log insight it should have server-domain name / hostname as FQDN of virtual IP and FQDN of all nodes (eg vrli.domain.com, vrli1.domain.com, vrli2.domain.com, etc.) as part of certificate
    6. Enable log insight integration with VMWare Identity Manager / Workspace one access. This way we can create an account in Workspace one access and use it for login into mutliple products.
    7. Enable anti-affinity DRS rules to keep multiple log insight VMs on different hosts
Note that Log insight has its own virtual IP cluster or load balancing mechanism. Hence external load balancer is not required to load balance among multiple log insight VMs.
  9. After the deployment log insight can be accessed via virtual IP FQDN using https://
You can login into log insight using account (Eg configurationadmin) created on workspace one access.
