Steps to Take a Backup in FortiGate Firewall

Access the FortiGate GUI

Log in to the FortiGate firewall using the GUI (Web Interface) 
For GUI: Open a browser and go to the IP address of the FortiGate firewall.

Backup Using GUI

Navigate to the System > Maintenance > Backup section.
Choose the Configuration tab.
Select the Backup button to initiate the backup.
Optionally, you can enable encryption for the backup file by selecting Password Protection and setting a password.
Once ready, click Backup to download the configuration file.
The backup file will typically have the format `FGT_<hostname>_<date>.conf`.

Verify the Backup

After completing the backup process, verify that the backup file is saved properly in the selected destination (either locally or on the remote server).
You can also check the backup logs for confirmation.

Restore a Backup

To restore a backup, go to System > Maintenance > Backup and click Restore.
Upload the backup file you wish to restore, and confirm the restore action.
